Night Edge Pictures, Bangkok-based production, sales, and distribution company recently announced the launch of its 2024 slate of genre-centric films and TV series. Building on its successful release of Talk to Me in 2023, which reportedly grossed over 20-million-baht, Night Edge Pictures is promising more “elevated horror” films in the future.
True to its motto, “Blood, Sweat and Thrills”, Night Edge Pictures is set to launch a line-up of high-rated A-list films from around the world, starting with Rotten Tomatoes’ highest rated horror film of 2023 When Evil Lurks, which is slated to come out in cinemas on May 9.
In addition, it will be co-releasing with M Studio one of the biggest blockbusters of the summer Boy Kills World, which stars Hollywood A-lister Bill Skarsgard. Produced by award-winning director Sam Raimi, from the Evil Dead saga and Spider-man Trilogy, Boy Kills World is Night Edge Pictures’ first venture into the action-gore sub-genre.
Lastly, Miramax’s Strange Darling, a terrifying cat-and-mouse horror-thriller from director J.T. Mollner, which opened with a 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, is scheduled to come out in August.
Night Edge’s Chief Operating Officer Hans Audric Estialbo, cleverly being hailed by Thai industry insiders as the upcoming “prince of horror” shares, “The appetite for genre content in Southeast Asia continues to grow as horror and thriller films and series, especially Thai-produced ones, have become highly regarded around the world. Horror films, especially independently produced titles, have infused a new lease of life for the local film industry. As the first of its kind studio in Asia that focuses on horror and thriller films, we aim to bring emotionally generous stories with our slate starting this year.”
On top of these international titles, Night Edge Pictures has also announced in the recently concluded Hong Kong Filmart its first slate of original Thai films, including collaborations with Kongkiat Komesiri, director of the highly lucrative Khun Pan franchise in Thailand, as well as Film Frame Productions, the team behind the highly anticipated film adaptation of Home Sweet Home: Rebirth, based on the popular action-horror video game.
To round up Night Edge’s slate is a sexy, suspense-driven legal thriller, a co-production between Night Edge Pictures and Kantana Group, one of Asia’s biggest production magnates.
Hans adds, “Night Edge Pictures exists to create a platform for future storytellers, creatives, producers as well as investors to tell stories that thrill the new generation of moviegoers. We are extremely excited to add on to the legacy of other studios that came before us.”
